Diving Board DEATH, part 2

Before Reading: This story was not meant to offend anybody, and none of the characters were made to represent anybody.

Andrea glared at the other girl. She didn’t seem to be turning around anytime soon. Andrea’s foot throbbed horribly. She would have to swim back soon. Not to mention, Andrea was nearly out of air. The other girl smiled wickedly as Andrea reluctantly turned around and swam upward. After a minute or too, Andrea reached the surface. She gulped in the fresh air as she climbed out of the pool. She limped off to Ms. Karry and told her about her ankle.

“Oh dear, that’s not good. It looks sprained to me. I don’t think you should be diving with that ankle, Andrea. I recommend you take some rest.. And skip that diving board.” She said, a concerned expression on her face.

“Oh, uh… yeah, I guess I shouldn’t do the diving board then. Thanks, Ms. Karry.” Andrea limped off with a sad expression on her face, although on the inside she was perfectly content. She didn’t have to do the Diving board! Thank god!

But then, Andrea saw the other girl climb out of the pool, the one that had beat her, and all of Andrea’s happiness was sucked out. Andrea realized that by not doing the diving board, she was losing her only chance to prove herself better than that other girl.

Andrea walked up to Ms. Karry.

“Maam, by ankle feels so much better,” Andrea said, even though her ankle hurt more than ever.

“A-Are you sure? It still looks pretty bad to me-” Ms. Karry started.

“No, no, it’s fine! Really! I can do the diving board!” Andrea said, forcing her look of desperation into a smile of confidence.

“Okay, if you say so.” Ms. Karry said, although she still looked pretty worried.

Everyone lined up at the diving boards, then began to dive at the call of their name.

“Kelly!” Ms. Karry called. A girl dove.

“Maya!” Another girl dove.

A few more people went, and then it was the mean girl’s turn.

She dove swiftly into the clear blue water, barely making a splash.

“Andrea!” Ms. Karry announced. “Your turn!”

Andrea slowly went up the steps, and clutched the railing as she walked to the edge of the board. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. Her ankle was stinging with pain. No. Andrea wasn’t going to let her ankle stop her again. She took a deep breath, and then jumped.

Technically it wasn’t graceful in any way, but it was technically a dive.. I guess.

The water felt like concrete as she hit it. Ouch. Andrea didn’t know which direction she was facing, nor which was was up. She let out an air bubble, then followed it to the surface. Ms. Karry looked proud. And that mean girl looked shocked. She probably didn’t know that a person could physically dive that badly. Technically, Andrea didn’t beat the other girl, due to the fact that she dove like an electrocuted walrus, while the other girl was a swan. Not to worry, Andrea told herself. I’ll beat her next class for sure.
