A Nighttime snack

Before reading: This story is not meant to offend anybody; all characters are made up and were not made to represent anybody.

The ferocious feline is asleep. Yes, dear reader, the ferocious feline IS asleep. This is Lucky The Kitty reporting now. The ferocious feline, or the fat furry blob of Cheeku, is currently snoring. Loud. I have woken because of this noise, and have noticed that:

  1. Outside of the window, it is dark. It must be night.
  2. I can smell……food. And it has a strong scent. The food is near.
  3. The garage door is closed…..wait! It is open a little bit. I can slip through!
  4. Cheeku is blocking the way to the door. Oh no.

I put all these things together in my smart little kitty brain and came with this: The garage door is open, and the scent of food is coming from the house. The humans are asleep (because it is night), so they will not be a problem. The only obstacle is the Ferocious feline, blocking my way. I will have to be as silent as possible in order to accomplish  mission Find That Food. This mission is now in action.

I carefully approach the snoring mound of blubber and fur. I must be silent, or the monster will wake. I hold my breath as I try to step over him, paws trembling. It is too big a distance for a step. This ocean of cheeku will require a great leap. I steady myself, and jump! I land fairly quietly, and slowly look behind me.

Oh lord…..the sea of blubber and fur has started to move! I was not silent enough! There is only one thing I can do to save myself from the wrath of cheeku, and that one thing is to run out the garage door. And I must do it now!

I bump my head forcefully on the door, opening it just enough for me to slip out.  I am pleased to report I have exited the garage safely, and now I must follow the scent of food as quickly as I can, so that I can return to the garage soon and no one will suspect my leave. I sniff the air, and follow the scent through corridors and passageways, until I am in the dining room. If I am remembering clearly, the kitchen is across from the dining room. That is where our humans prepare our meals. The scent seems to be leading there!

I creep into the kitchen, and take a good look around, looking for anything that might be the heart of the scrumptious scent. I search the ground first. I am sadly reporting that there is nothing on the kitchen floor, I repeat, nothing on the floor. I must jump onto the counters. The food must be up there.

During the day, if I jump onto the counters, my humans say, “Lucky, get down! DOWN!” I jump down immediately, of course, because I am a good kitty. They tell me it is dangerous up there. Sometimes I have wondered what lies above. Now I must find out.

I steady my paws, preparing to jump, even though I am very scared. I always thought, if my humans say it is dangerous, then it must be. But I must go, for this search has made me quite hungry, and I must complete a mission that I start.

I stop thinking and leap. I notice the counter getting closer and closer, and the ground getting farther. I land swiftly and safely. Whew. I am relieved to say that I am not injured. I sniff. The scent is close now. I follow it along the counter top. I continue to alert myself not to look down, for if I do, I might get so frightened by the sight that I won’t be able to complete Mission Find That Food.  Don’t look down, Don’t look down,  I whisper to myself. Now the scent is very vibrant. I see my treat! It is a juicy, untouched, scarlet apple! How lovely. I pick up my prey in my mouth and prepare to jump back down. But before I do, I take a good look around. The counter tops are covered with different machines of which the humans use to prepare all sorts of sweet-smelling delights. It is really not very frightening at all. Oh, but I can barely make out….a light? It seems like…fire? It is coming from a metal rectangle with two slots. I have seen my humans feeding it with bread, and the bread comes out again, but darker. They call this, “toast”. Why is there light coming from the object, I do not know. It is scary, though, so I jump down. I am safe and sound. So is my apple. It is time to go back to the garage to eat my treat. I pad through the passageways as fast as possible, and soon arrive at the garage door. As soon as I enter, I see Cheeku sitting alone in the garage. When he sees me, he seems so happy! He runs toward me, a smile on his face.

“I thought you were kidnapped!” He hugs me. I hug back. Cheeku isn’t so bad, I decide. We share my treat. Mission Find That Food, complete! This is Lucky The Kitty, signing out. (Man, that Cheeku is going to get so fat, he shall EXPLODE)
